| O Winnicy | "In the heart of the Huapai and Kumeu wine region, about 35km north west of Auckland, sits Coopers Creek. This is an area that is home to some of the oldest established vines in New Zealand and steeped in tradition.Andrew and Cynthia Hendry first established the Coopers Creek winery in 1980. Their aim was to produce the very highest quality wines, principally dry in style and reflecting New Zealand's outstanding cool climate viticultural conditions. At the Huapai site four hectares of land were purchased and work started on the winery buildings. Chardonnay and Merlot vines were planted. The policy to grow the grapes where they grow best, reflectes in the wines produced.Today, twenty years later, Coopers Creek is still a family owned. A new vineyard site in the Hawkes Bay (12ha at Roys Hill) recently got acquired and further contracts with vineyard sites in Marlborough and Gisborne secured.Currently the company employs twenty-two full time employees and the wines are exported to over twenty countries worldwide. The winery and vineyard site at Huapai has matured well over the years since the humble beginnings.
